Privacy Policy

Effective date: 30 October 2026 (adds Cat Turf on Google Play and TikTok; previous version 24 October 2026)

This policy covers the games published by NEWPLAY LIMITED, a company registered in New Zealand — including Rambutan Pop, Survive Lite, Drift Peak and Cat Turf — and the website at newplay.co.nz. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean NEWPLAY LIMITED, and "our games" means any game we publish, on any platform we publish it on.

This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version

  • You do not need an account to play our games. We do not ask you for your name or phone number. The only place we ask for an email address is the optional contact box on the feedback form, and you can leave it blank.
  • Your progress is stored on your own device, not on our servers.
  • If you play the Rambutan Pop playtest in your browser, we record anonymous gameplay statistics to tune the game's difficulty, unless you switch that off. No names, contact details or IP addresses.
  • The same is true of the Survive Lite playtest: we record how each night went — which night, whether you lived, how long it took, what killed you — to fit the difficulty curve. You can switch it off, and it asks you the first time you play.
  • The Drift Peak playtest records how each bend and jump went — whether you made it, and how many milliseconds early or late you let go — to tune how forgiving the timing is. You can switch that off on the title screen.
  • Cat Turf — in the browser playtest and in the Google Play and TikTok versions — asks before it records anything. If you agree, it records how each puzzle went — whether you solved it, how long it took and how long you thought between moves — and which daily rewards and ad buttons you used, to tune its difficulty and its rewards. No names, contact details or IP addresses.
  • Some of our games show advertising — Survive Lite shows none. Our advertising partner collects data about your device in order to show and measure those ads. That is the only routine collection of personal information here.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

What each game collects

Our games are not all the same, so this table says what is true of each one. Where the rest of this policy describes something a particular game does not do, that part does not apply to that game.

What we collect

Stored on your device only

Your level progress, stars, settings and whether you have seen the tutorial are saved in your device's local storage. We cannot read it, it is not sent anywhere, and deleting the game deletes it.

Collected by our advertising partner

Our games show rewarded video ads, which you choose to watch in exchange for something in the game — in Rambutan Pop, extra time or a booster. Ads are served by Google AdMob. To serve, cap and measure them, Google may process:

  • your device's advertising identifier;
  • your IP address, and a coarse location (typically country) derived from it;
  • device and app information such as model, operating system version, language and the app version;
  • whether an ad was requested, shown, watched to the end, or clicked.

Google acts as an independent controller of this data. What Google does with it is described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and in the Google Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

In TikTok mini games the ads are served by TikTok, which processes device and ad-interaction data to serve and measure them under its own privacy policy, https://www.tiktok.com/legal/privacy-policy.

If you play through TikTok

The TikTok mini game version of a game signs you in through TikTok. In that version we receive the TikTok account identifier TikTok gives us, and the display name and avatar you have made visible to apps. We use them only to show who you are inside the game. We do not receive your TikTok password, your contacts, or your activity outside the game.

Cat Turf’s TikTok version is different: it signs you in silently because TikTok requires it, but it does not read your TikTok profile. We receive no account identifier, name or avatar.

If you take part in a playtest

Before release we invite people to try Rambutan Pop in a web browser at rambutan.newplay.co.nz. While you play it, and unless you choose "Don't record", the game sends us a record of each attempt at a level: which level, whether you won, how much time was left, how many moves you made and how long you took over them, the cascades and boosters you used, the version of the game, whether you play by touch or mouse, your screen size, and the country your connection comes from (worked out by our hosting provider, Cloudflare; we do not store your IP address). Each device gets a random tester ID, kept in your browser, so we can tell repeat attempts from new players; it is not linked to your name or anything else about you. If you send feedback from the game, we store what you wrote and how hard you said the level was, with the same kind of game context.

We use this only to make the game's difficulty and design better. It is stored in a database we control on Cloudflare. You can turn recording off on your first visit or at any time from the Feedback window, and ask us to delete what we hold by writing to [email protected] with the tester ID shown there.

We also invite people to try Survive Lite at survive.newplay.co.nz. While you play it, and unless you choose “Don’t record”, the game sends us a record of each night you play. A night in that game is one round of gathering by day and holding off animals by night, and the record is what happened in it:

  • The night: which night it was, whether you survived it, died or closed the tab part way through, how long it took, how many animals came and whether one of them was a boss, how many you killed, how much health you started and finished with, how much damage you took, how many times you dodged, how far you moved, and which kind of animal landed the last blow.
  • The day before it: how long it lasted, how much wood, stone and ore you brought home, how many times you swung at something, how far you walked, how many trips back to camp you made, and how long you had the camp screen open.
  • What you were playing with: the weapon you chose, the levels of your camp buildings, the cards you have taken, and the run’s seed — a short code that lets us regenerate the same world and see the night for ourselves.
  • Your setup: the version of the game, whether you play by touch or mouse, your window size, and the country your connection comes from (worked out by our hosting provider, Cloudflare; we do not store your IP address).

When a run ends because your character died, we also record how many nights it lasted and how long you played in total. That is the game’s whole score, and it is why we are collecting any of this.

Each device gets a random tester ID, kept in your browser, so we can tell repeat nights by one player from one night each by many players. It is not linked to your name or to anything else about you, and we do not know who you are. Each visit and each run also get their own random IDs, which exist only to group the records.

No names, no contact details, no IP addresses, and nothing about what you do outside the game. We use this only to make the game’s difficulty fair — at the moment it is tuned against a computer playing itself, which is not the same thing as a person. It is stored in a database we control on Cloudflare. You are asked on your first night and can change your mind at any time from the notice at the bottom of the screen; with recording off, nothing further is sent. To have what we hold deleted, write to [email protected] with the tester ID shown in the feedback window.

Part of this is published. Survive Lite has a public leaderboard, because how many nights you lasted is the game’s whole score. It shows a rank, the number of nights, the weapon used, the country, the run’s world code, and a name, if you choose to set one.

The name is the only thing on that board you provide, and it is optional. You type it in the game and it is shown publicly, exactly as typed. Please do not put your real name, your email address or anything else private in it — there is no way for us to un-publish something you have already shared with everyone who loads the board. Leave it blank and your run is listed as unnamed and ranked just the same. You can change or clear it at any time in the game; the board picks up the change from your next night.

There is no other identifier on the board: not your tester ID, not your device, nothing that links one row to another. Where you stand is worked out inside your own browser from the list of scores, so finding your place sends us nothing. If you switch recording off, your runs are not counted and do not appear.

We may remove a name that impersonates us, or that we judge abusive, without removing the score. Names that claim to be NewPlay or a moderator are refused when you type them. If you want a name removed — yours or somebody else’s — write to [email protected].

A score on that board is counted from the night records a run actually sent, not from what the run said about itself — so a made-up score is not a score. That is a fairness measure rather than a privacy one, but it is the reason we hold the records at all.

The page is also counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which records the visit without cookies and without building a profile of you.

Feedback is separate, and it only goes when you press send. If you use the feedback button we receive what you wrote, the kind of problem you picked, and — only if you fill them in or attach them — the contact details you leave and a screenshot of your game. Alongside it we receive the version you were playing, your browser’s user-agent string, your window size, whether you are on a phone, the time, where you had got to in the run, and your tester ID, so that a message about a hard night can be matched to that night. That message is delivered to us by Formspree and arrives as email at [email protected].

We also invite people to try Drift Peak at drift.newplay.co.nz, a driving game played with one finger: you hold to drift round a bend or to charge a jump, and let go at the right moment. While you play it, and unless you choose “开始,但不记录” (“start without recording”) on the title screen, the game sends us a record of each bend and each jump: which one it was, whether you made it or how you crashed, how many milliseconds early or late you let go, how long the ideal hold was and how much leeway the game allowed, whether it counted as perfect, and whether you were using touch, a mouse or the keyboard.

It also records when you start and finish a stretch of road between two camps, how long it took and how you crashed if you did, whether you chose to revive or start again after a crash, and when you reach a camp or the summit. With each visit we record whether your screen is a touch screen, its size and pixel density, the version of the playtest course, and the country your connection comes from (worked out by our hosting provider, Cloudflare; we do not store your IP address).

Each device gets a random tester ID, kept in your browser, and each visit its own random ID; they exist only to group the records and are not linked to your name or anything else about you. No names, no contact details, no IP addresses, no cookies, and nothing about what you do outside the game. Drift Peak has no feedback form, no leaderboard and no analytics service, and its ads are simulated. We use these records only to tune the game’s timing — its difficulty is currently set against a computer model of a player, and this is how we learn how real people time things. They are stored in a database we control on Cloudflare. You can turn recording on or off from the title screen each time you start; with it off, nothing is sent. To have what we hold deleted, write to [email protected] with the tester ID shown on the title screen.

We also invite people to try Cat Turf at catturf.newplay.co.nz, a logic puzzle: place one cat in every coloured turf, one in every row and column, with no two cats touching. On your first visit the game asks whether it may record how you play. Nothing is sent until you agree, and if you choose “Don’t record”, nothing is sent at all. If you agree, the game sends us:

  • Each attempt at a puzzle: which puzzle and level, whether you solved it, lost it, skipped it or left it, the stars you earned, how many wrong moves, reveals, tips and extra hearts you used, how long the attempt took, how many marks you made and the time between them.
  • A few things outside the puzzles: that you opened the game, that you claimed the daily check-in (and whether you doubled it or kept your streak), that you ran out of energy, and which in-game ad buttons you pressed and whether the ad ran to the end. The ads are simulated: no advertising network is involved and no advertising data is collected.
  • Your setup, with each record: the version of the game, the date on your device, your device’s language setting, whether you play by touch or mouse, your screen size, and the country your connection comes from (worked out by our hosting provider, Cloudflare; we do not store your IP address).

Each device gets a random tester ID, kept in your browser, and each visit its own random ID; they exist only to group the records and are not linked to your name or anything else about you. If you send feedback with the 💬 button, we receive what you wrote and how hard you rated the game, with where you were in it (the screen, the puzzle, your energy, stars, reveals, tips and progress); with recording off, your feedback is stored without your tester ID. The form has no contact box. No names, no contact details, no IP addresses, no cookies, and nothing about what you do outside the game.

Part of this is published. Cat Turf has a public ranking of how many puzzles each player has solved. It shows a rank, that number, and a made-up cat nickname (such as “Sleepy Tabby #4821”) that the game works out from a number derived from your tester ID. You never type a name, and neither your tester ID nor anything else about you is shown. With recording off, your score is not sent and you are not in the ranking.

We use these records only to tune the game’s difficulty and its rewards. They are stored in a database we control on Cloudflare. You can turn recording off at any time from the feedback window or the Settings window on the home screen; with it off, nothing more is sent. To have what we hold deleted, write to [email protected] with the tester ID shown in the feedback window.

Cat Turf on Google Play and TikTok

The released versions of Cat Turf ask the same question the first time you open them and, if you agree, send the same records, events and feedback to the same database, marked with the platform and the game’s version. The ranking and your choices work the same way, and the Settings window has the recording switch. Unlike the playtest, their ads are real (see “Collected by our advertising partner” above). The cat breeds other than the orange cat are downloaded from catturf.newplay.co.nz the first time you see them; nothing about you is sent with that download. If you dare a friend, the dare holds the puzzle, your time and your stars, and goes only where you choose to share it.

To have your Cat Turf data deleted — from the playtest or from either released version: open the feedback window (the 💬 button), note the tester ID shown there, and write to [email protected] with it. We delete every gameplay record, event, feedback message and ranking entry stored under that ID, and keep nothing. What stays on your device goes when you uninstall the game or clear its data. Advertising data is held by Google or TikTok, not by us; reset your advertising ID as described under “Your choices and your rights”.

Our website

If you contact us through newplay.co.nz or by email, we receive whatever you put in the message, including your email address, and keep it for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry. The site at www.newplay.co.nz is a set of static pages hosted on Cloudflare. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics, and does not track visitors. The Rambutan Pop, Survive Lite, Drift Peak and Cat Turf playtest sites are the exceptions, described above: each records how you played, and survive.newplay.co.nz also counts the visit with a cookie-free analytics service.

What we do not collect

Our games do not collect your name, phone number, postal address, contacts, photos, microphone or camera input, health data, or precise GPS location. Two exceptions are deliberate and both are yours to use or ignore: the feedback form has an optional contact box, so if you type an email address or a messaging handle there we receive it, along with any screenshot you attach; and the Survive Lite leaderboard has an optional name, which is published as typed. Leave it blank and we have no way to reach you, which is fine — the feedback is still useful. None of Rambutan Pop, Survive Lite, Drift Peak or Cat Turf has chat or any way for players to send each other anything, and none has in-app purchases, so we never see payment details.

Children

Our games are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Rambutan Pop is rated for players aged 13 and over. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.

Where your information goes

We are based in New Zealand. Google processes advertising data on servers in a number of countries, which may not be the country you are in. Google's own policy describes those transfers and the safeguards applied to them.

How long it is kept

Progress data stays on your device until you delete the game or clear its data. Advertising data is kept by Google according to Google's retention policy, not ours. Playtest records and feedback are kept until the game's release and then for no more than 12 months, after which they are deleted. Records and feedback from the released versions of Cat Turf are kept for no more than 12 months from when they were sent. Messages you send us are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry.

Your choices and your rights

  • Reset or delete your advertising ID. On Android: Settings → Google → Ads. On iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. This limits what advertisers can tie together across apps.
  • Don't watch the ads. Every ad in Rambutan Pop is one you start yourself. Nothing in the game is gated behind watching one.
  • Delete your progress by clearing the app's data or uninstalling the game.
  • Stop playtest recording with "Don't record" on your first visit, or the "Record my gameplay stats" switch in the Feedback window. Nothing more is sent from that browser.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used — under, among others, the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, the Philippine Data Privacy Act 2012, Malaysia's PDPA 2010, Indonesia's Personal Data Protection Law, and Thailand's PDPA. Write to [email protected] and we will respond within the time the applicable law allows. Because our games collect so little and Rambutan Pop has no accounts, we may not be able to identify data as yours; if that happens we will tell you.

You may also complain to the privacy regulator where you live. In New Zealand that is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, https://www.privacy.org.nz.

Security

Rambutan Pop holds no accounts and no payment details, which removes most of what could be stolen. Traffic between our games and our advertising partner, and between the playtest and our servers, is encrypted in transit.

Changes

If we change what our games collect, or publish a game that collects something new, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Where the change is significant, we will say so in the game before it takes effect.

Terms of Service

Effective date: 25 September 2026 (adds Survive Lite; previous version 17 September 2026)

These terms are an agreement between you and NEWPLAY LIMITED, a company registered in New Zealand, about your use of the games we publish — including Rambutan Pop and Survive Lite — on any platform we publish them on. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean NEWPLAY LIMITED, and "the game" means whichever of our games you are playing. By installing or playing, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not play.

1. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and play the game for your own entertainment. That is all it is: we are not selling you the game or any part of it.

2. What you may not do

You may not:

  • copy, sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the game;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except where the law says you may despite this term;
  • modify the game, or use tools, bots or altered clients to change how it behaves;
  • interfere with the game, our systems, or our advertising partners' systems, or try to obtain money from advertising fraudulently;
  • use the game in any way that breaks the law where you are.

3. Age

Our games are intended for players aged 13 and over. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may play only with the consent of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms with you.

4. Advertising

Our games are free. Survive Lite carries no advertising of any kind. Rambutan Pop is paid for by advertising. It shows rewarded video ads, which you start yourself in exchange for extra time or a booster. You are never required to watch one to keep playing. We do not control the content of the ads; they come from Google AdMob. What data the ads involve is described in our Privacy Policy at https://www.newplay.co.nz/legal#privacy-policy.

5. Purchases

Some of our games may offer in-app purchases. Rambutan Pop does not: it has no purchases of any kind, and we never see your payment details. Where a game does offer them, the purchase is made through the app store you installed the game from, under that store's terms, and any refund is handled by that store under its refund policy, not by us.

6. No real-world value

Anything you earn inside a game — progress, stars, boosters, time, in-game currency — has no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money or anything else outside the game, and is not your property. We may change, reset or remove it at any time, including when we update a game's balance. Nothing in our games is gambling: there is no wager, no prize of value, and no chance-based purchase.

7. Your progress

In both Rambutan Pop and Survive Lite, progress is stored on your device. We do not back it up. Changing device, clearing the app's data or uninstalling the game will lose it, and we cannot restore it.

8. Our rights in the game

Our games, including their code, artwork, sound, names and logos, belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. These terms give you no rights in them beyond the licence in section 1. "Rambutan Pop" and the NEWPLAY LIMITED name are ours.

9. Changes and availability

We may update, change or stop offering a game, or any part of it, at any time. We may change these terms; the current version will always be at this address with its effective date. If you keep playing after a change, you accept it.

10. Ending the licence

You may end it at any time by uninstalling the game. We may end it if you break these terms.

11. No warranty

Our games are provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose, and we exclude all warranties that are not expressly given here.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that cannot be excluded by law. If you are a consumer in New Zealand, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 may give you rights that these terms do not affect. If you acquire a game for business purposes, the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply.

12. Our liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, loss of profit, or loss of anything you earned inside a game. Where we are liable and the law does not allow that to be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of NZD 100 and what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer somewhere else, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in.

14. General

If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. These terms are the whole agreement between us about our games.
